Robin Shute to pilot Pikes Peak Aston Martin
Modified Aston Martin GT3 will be the brand’s first Pikes Peak entry, with three-time winner Robin Shute at the wheel
Aston Martin is planning its first assault on the famous Pikes Peak mountain climb this year – and Britain’s three-time winner, Robin Shute, will be behind the wheel.
Venture Engineering, a partner team of Aston Martin Racing, will run a Vantage GT3 in the Time Attack 1 class in the 101st edition of the ‘Race to the Clouds’ on the Colorado mountain, ahead of a planned assault on the top Unlimited class next year.
“It’s an honour to be racing this year with Venture Engineering,” said Shute, the only British driver to have won Pikes Peak overall. “It’s very special for me to race a car with such storied racing roots back home in the UK. I can’t wait to make this Vantage GT3 roar up the mountain.”
The Vantage will undergo significant modifications ahead of the event on June 25, with new mapping planned for its 4-litre twin-turbo AMG-derived V8 along with the addition of aerodynamic upgrades.
Shute has won three of the past four Pikes Peak climbs in his own self-run Wolf sports racer.
