Rally Master Sébastien Ogier Switches to LMP2
Just when you started to think the battle of the all-time rallying greats was finally going to happen, Sébastien Ogier confirms he will switch to the FIA World Endurance Championship this year with the Richard Mille Racing Team.
Ogier will share the squad’s ORECA 07 LMP2 with ’21 Le Mans LMP2 winner Charles Milesi and French rising star Lilou Wadoux, who last year became the first female race winner in the Alpine Europa Cup.
Ogier had set his sights on a move to Le Mans after ending his full-time World Rally Championship career following his eighth title last season. The Frenchman had tested with Toyota’s Hypercar squad, but has chosen to gain experience in LMP2.
Ogier said: “I’m a novice here, for sure, but I want to enjoy myself while seeing how close I can get to the best.” The news does come as a bit of a downer right after the epic battle between Ogier and Sébastien Loeb during the Monte-Carlo Rally in January. Ogier will still tackle a handful of WRC, but it seems once again we’ll be denied the titantic showdown of the Sébs we’d love.
