In brief, April 2014

* Caterham withdrew its Le Mans 24 Hours entry soon after announcing its plans to return to the LMP2 category with the Greaves Zytek team. Caterham pulled the plug on its programme, which included an assault on the European Le Mans Series, after being listed as third reserve for Le Mans.

* Toyota has reshuffled its driver line-up for this year’s WEC. Stéphane Sarrazin will join Alex Wurz and Kazuki Nakajima in the No7 car, while Nicolas Lapierre moves the other way to share with Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi.

* BTCC greats Alain Menu and Fabrizio Giovanardi will return to the series in 2014. Menu, 50, will do the full series for the first time since winning the title with Ford in 2000. He’ll drive a BMR Volkswagen Passat CC. Giovanardi won BTCC titles with Vauxhall in 2007-08, and will race a Ford Focus ST for front-runner Motorbase. Menu, who has raced sporadically since Chevrolet pulled out of the WTCC after 2012, said: “The best times of my career were in the BTCC. It’s going to be nice to catch up with people I’ve not seen for years. ” Giovanardi added: “In 2008 and 2009 Motorbase was one of the teams to beat. Four years on I believe they’ve got good experience.”
