A new week-long classic special stage rally will run in South Africa in September to celebrate the country’s rallying heritage. The event will cover 870 miles of special stages in a total route mileage of around 2500 miles and will be open to pre-1978 cars.

The September 15-22 Classic Rally South Africa is being organised by the team responsible for the Safari Classic, which will next run in November 2013.

“For too long now South Africa has lacked a big competitive classic rally catering for the cars of 30 years ago, and this deficiency is now being addressed in style,” said event director Surinder Thatthi.
