GT1 world series attracts star line-up
A raft of top-line drivers, including Peter Dumbreck, Karl Wendlinger, Darren Turner and Oliver Gavin, have signed up for the inaugural FIA GT1 World Championship.
Ex-DTM racer Dumbreck (right) and long-time Super GT driver Michael Krumm will share the lead Nissan GT-R entered by the new British Sumo GT team. Wendlinger will race for the second Nissan squad, the Swiss Racing Team.
Turner and fellow Aston Martin Racing factory driver Stefan Mücke will race for the new Young Driver AMR team run by the German Fischer Racing squad. Turner will share his DBR9 with long-time team-mate Tomáš Enge, while Mücke will drive with Dane Christoffer Nygaard.
Chevrolet factory driver Gavin, a four-time GT1 class winner at Le Mans, will race a Corvette C6.R for Mad Croc Racing, an amalgam of the Selleslagh and DKR FIA GT teams. The Briton will share the car with sexagenarian Pertti Kuimanen, while ex-F1 driver Mika Salo will take Gavin’s place when he is on duty for Corvette in the ALMS.
The 10-date GT1 World series kicks off at Abu Dhabi on April 17.
