Brooklands gifted land for museum

The long-term future of the Brooklands Museum has been assured after land owner Japan Tobacco International gifted the freehold of the 30-acre site to the museum’s governing trust.

The welcomed move follows a tenancy of more than 25 years, during which time the museum has become established as a major centre of motor sport heritage.

“The transfer of the freehold is an important milestone for the museum,” said Lord Trefgarne, Brooklands Museum Trustees chairman. “Without the generous support of JTI in making this land available, and their assistance in converting a derelict former factory site to its new use, it would have been impossible for the museum to establish itself. JTI’s exceptional gift gives the museum a secure basis for its future.”

The museum preserves the motor racing and aviation heritage of Brooklands.
