Pioneering wing

Sir,

Looking at the picture on page 47 of February’s issue, Jean Rondeau’s eponymous M379 puts me in mind of the FIA’s much-vaunted ‘Centreline Downwash Generating Wing’, Formula 1’s alleged cure-all.

Isn’t it nice to see that motor racing’s supposed premier high-technology category is only 27 years late?

As Ecclesiastes taught: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the Sun.” Or maybe someone else said that first, too?
