The historic racing world was saddened to learn of the death of Gunnar Elmgren, until recently President of the FIA Historic Motorsport Commission. The Swede passed away aged 64, after an illness. 

He will be remembered as a popular figure in international historic racing, who dealt with many difficult issues with fairness.

After learning to drive at the age of 13, he enjoyed a successful career in the Swedish automotive industry. Elmgren was also an enthusiastic racer and enjoyed racing a Maserati 250F during the 1990s, as well as competing in an Austin Healey 100.
