My hero
By Norbert Singer
“Unfortunately I never got to meet him, but Jim Clark was my hero when I was a young man studying engineering. I was interested in racing, so I went to the German Grand Prix in 1965 and Clark won. I only got to see him 15 times, though, because the race was on the long Nordschleife lap back then. Eighteen months later, I went to Monaco to see him again and because I was told I’d get a close look at the cars.
“I admired Clark because he seemed happy to race any kind of car Formula One and Two and touring cars and I was told that he did things differently. He liked a strange set-up that no-one else could run with. I liked him for that.”
