Good news, if rather too late, is that British Heritage has announced that the whole of Brooklands is now scheduled as an Historic Monument.

It means that it now has protection against damage and that it will be exceedingly difficult to obtain permission to build any more new buildings there. While there is no obligation to maintain the track, it would be a criminal offence actually to damage it.

However, the erection by Helical Bar of office blocks and a multi-storey car park very close to the Paddock and Clubhouse proceeds, and Grand Prix Academy have planning permission to run their karting school and to put up Portakabin offices in the centre of the estate, which will not be rescinded until 2006.
