Jordan Grand Prix played a key role in Andrew Hall’s VSCC Pomeroy Trophy victory at Silverstone on February 26, after the clutch pedal of his 1929 Frazer-Nash fell off in scrutineering.

“I drove to the factory and held the pedal in place while one guy welded it and the others fell about laughing,” said Hall. “We cut it a bit fine, arriving at the start of the first test — the Wiggle-Woggle slalom — with about 10 secs to spare. Any later and we’d have been out.”

Thereafter, the car never missed a beat. It sailed through the morning’s braking test and the standing-start and flying quarter-mile sprints before making mincemeat of the handicap.

Winston Teague’s ‘Nash finished second (which had looked to be James Diffey’s until his ’97-winning BMW 2002’s duff failed) ahead of Sam Stretton’s Westfield 11. Devised by Laurence Pomeroy, and run since 1952, ‘The Porn’ uses a bizarre formula, weighted, not always successfully, to vintage machines, to find the ‘ideal touring car.’ An eclectic mix of 79 started this year.
