I trust that the Grand Prix Legends computer game and my computer will function in unison one day. Unfortunately, despite a computer of suitable specification they refuse to co-operate. But I have an alternative suggestion. Purchase a sound, out of fashion, single-seater (eg a mid-eighties Formula Ford, a Formula Vee, etc). A suitable one can be obtained for considerably less than five thousand pounds. These cars are not slow. No less a person than Eddie Irvine claimed that he could lap his Formula Ford at a similar speed to that achieved by an early ’60s GP car.

Contact a firm that organises driving days — Wheeltorque, Club 96— details can be found in the publication Circuit News. Pay for a trip and drive the real circuits. I find that reality is ample recompense for not racing a simulated hero from the past
