VSCC in Derbyshire
The pleasure that many would miss if the VSCC did not run its series of trials was evident on March 4/5, when 86 competitors (five non-starters) lined up for the two-day trial when most of the country was experiencing appalling weather conditions. These drivers set off in their pre-war cars to attempt nine sections on each day. Moreover, only 14 had brought their steeds on trailers, and there were a mere seven retirements.
In Class I the Dick Bartho Trophy was won by Andy Johnson’s 1923 Bugatti Brescia, and in Class 2 Ben Collings took the Patrick Marsh Trophy with the 1928 4 1/2-litre Bentley, an excellent result as he was the only one in his class to also take a First Class Award.
