Historical Harmony

Sir,

Since you “rescued” Brooklands from its sad break-up during the last war, followed by its shameful sale by a well-known “sportsman” who should have known better, your brilliant conception of the Brooklands Society has gone from strength to strength; long may it continue.

One has noticed that a rival organisation, the Brooklands Museum, is primarily concerned with the aviation activities which occurred at Brooklands from time to time; this is to be commended but it seems odd that this organisation ignores the fact that Brooklands was conceived and built as the World’s first Motor Racing Track and as such became not only World-famous, but the very name “Brooklands” became synonymous with motor-racing. It can only be hoped that both the Brooklands Society and the Brooklands Museum may flourish in the future, so that their respective historical associations may be preserved for posterity.
Clive Windsor-Richards,
Hindhead, Surrey.

(This is an appropriate place to say that the Brooklands Society’s Reunion will take place on June 28th, when more cars which used to race at the Track than are usually to be seen will hopefully be assembled.)
