Letters - Sir Lancelot Spratt

Sir,

I am writing a book about James Robertson Justice, the actor who played Sir Lancelot Spratt in the “Doctor” films, as well as making two motoring movies, “Checkpoint” and “Fast Lady”.

During the course of my research I discovered that he was at one time manager of a motor racing team. That is as far as I was able to go. I do not know what particular branch of this sport his team competed in, or what period of time we are talking about. Neither do I have any information on the names of the drivers and other key personnel, or the owner of the team.

I would be most grateful for any information from any readers who knew Justice on a non-professional basis, who may have known him through a local car club, for instance. You may be interested to know that of the vast amount of newspaper clippings which I have relating to Justice, a fair amount contain accounts of his seemingly numerous crashes! I also spoke to one lady who remembers as a girl seeing Justice driving round in a beautiful car in a village in Scotland, then emerging from the same looking like an old tramp!
