Grand Prix des Frontieres at Chimay

There have been lots of books about specific motor races, following my own on the JCC “200”s, and the latest is a very welcome one on the Grand Prix des Frontieres at Chimay, by Andre Biaumet.

This magazine-size 168-page soft-cover publication, in French, covers all these races from 1926 to 1959 giving entries, reports and results year by year, and is packed with pictures. If the photographs have not reproduced well, this is excusable, for many of them are distinctly rare. If you have not seen a photograph of a Genastin or a Fasto, you will appreciate this.

The British drivers who competed are there, as are many different Bugattis Amilcars and Salmsons. One notices how the Ford Speed Sport resembles that raced at Brooklands by Stirling Moss’ father, and how the Model-T ancestry of the Montier Fords shows, in the early versions.

Crash pictures are included, and this very full history of a typically French race should be in every motor-racing enthusiast’s library. It can be obtained by sending an International Postal Money Order (not a cheque) for 775 Belgian Francs to Andre Biaumet, Rue Montoyer 67, 6510 Morlanwels, Belgium. I do not think you will be disappointed! WB
