Bret's Bugatti

From France, we hear that when racing driver Edward Bret ceased to be a flying instructor at the CFS at Istres, he went to the 1929 Olympia Aero Show to buy an aeroplane, and chose a DH Gipsy Moth. Malcolm Campbell was named as the agent, and he part-exchanged it for Bret’s 1927 2-litre blown Bugatti, unseen.

The car was shipped from Cannes on a cargo-steamer with racing jacks and spares, in the condition in which Molsheim had prepared it for the Grand Prix de Guipuzcoa at San Sebastian earlier that year. Bret never saw the car again. WB
