Yet another MG event, this time organised by the Octagon CC, will be the “Wings Run” on Sunday June 16th. Starting at the Syon Park museum, up to 200 cars will set off for Abingdon, the home of MG’s, and membership is not necessary to take part. There is also a concours. The Dundrod Retrospective Tour is the climax to a week of motorsport to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Ulster Automobile Club, and Stirling Moss, will drive the Jaguar XKI20 in which he won the 1950 TT over this same course. The Tour, on August 10th, will be preceded by a hill-climb, a sprint and a race meeting, all leading to the Ulster Trophy, while many Fifties sports cars are expected to attend this reminder of one-time Tourist Trophies. Goodwood on Friday May 17th will become a mecca for Ferrari fans, when Modena Engineering hold their annual Driving Day at which owners can indulge their thoroughbred charges.

In the magazine of the Historic Rally Car Register, the Chairman, Don Picker, makes some possibly provocative comments about building replicas of defunct works cars, which he suggests is “not at all distasteful” as long as genuine works parts are used. Otherwise the historic rally car movement seems to have gained ground, with stage rallies being held for Big Healeys and Lotus Cortinas etc, which is rather more exciting than the usual concours events. The magazine also includes a picture of W.B. testing a 1934 Singer which is the oldest car in the Register.
