Here is yet another book About the World Cup Rally, and other marathons, by a journalist from Australia, who drove a Leyland P76— that controversial car—in this 1974 classic, finishing 13th. This is the stuff of adventure. And there is plenty of it, with appendices giving route notes, time schedules, results, etc. The snag is that the book has appeared far too long after the event, which many people will have forgotten.—W.B.

There is a saying that it never rains but it pours, and having only recently reviewed a very good book about transport in South Wales, I have now received a soft-cover Oakwood Press publication entitled “Motor Buses in Wales 1898-1932”, by D. E. Brewster. There are lots of pictures, though many of these are decidedly “Box Brownie”, and the span of this history seems a trifle odd. But it is very intriguing, nevertheless. One picture, of St, Mary’s Street, Cardiff, in the 1920s, with a White’s single-decker AEC Renown on the Penarth route, and trams, Model-T Fords, a bull-nose Morris and horse-drawn vehicles, etc. in the background, takes this reviewer right back to his childhood. No. 89 in their “Locomotion Papers”, this fascinating hook costs £1.35, from The Oakwood Press, Old School House . Church Hill, Tarrant Hinton, Blandford Forum, Dorset, DT11 8JB.

Pitman’s have issued five Stanton Abbey car handbooks, in a new series. The three we have seen cover the Austin Maxi, the Austin Allegro, and the Vauxhall Viva. The books include trouble-shooting charts and wiring diagrams.

There is absolutely no need to “sell” the “FIA Year Book of Automobile Sport”, which every follower of motoring competitions will require at his or her elbow all through the season. So we will just say that the 1976 edition, running to 820 51 in. .-. 41 in. pages and encompassing 200 photographs of drivers and cars and 185 circuit and other drawings, is available from Patrick Stephens Ltd., Barr Hill, Cambridge. The price is £5.25 at the time of writing.—W.B.
