Pedestrian Performance
Sir,
First, let me congratulate you in producing a really first-class magazine, even if half of it is full of advertisements (quality ones of course).
Secondly, I would like to try and make a mockery of all road test figures, which we are assured, mean so much. In your February issue, you refer to the Citroën GS as being THE under-powered car of the year. At first glances, this would seem so. But now the mockery starts.
A road test of a GS gives 0-60 as 15.9 sec. Working on this as a basic time, it would appear that an Austin 1800 (16.3 sec.), Hunter Super (16.2 sec.), Austin Maxi 1500 (16.6 sec.) and Triumph 1500. (17.1 sec.) to name a few, should be first on the pedestrian list. Britain’s best selling car, the Austin 1100, takes 21.9 sec.
See what I mean? But don’t worry though, every magazine is with you when you stand up and say of the GS “Damrnit sir, it must be slow, it costs £1,150.”
