The high speed race or American saloons round the banked tri-oval at Daytona Beach, Florida, saw not only the usual incredible lap speeds but an almost photo-finish after 500 miles of racing and numerous pit stops. The official placings gave only eight-tenths of a second between the first two cars, while the third car was on the same lap. No wonder such track racing draws huge crowds of spectators.
