"Motor Sport" Brooklands Memorial Trophy
The Motor Sport Brooklands Memorial Trophy will this year be awarded, together with a first prize of £75, second prize of £50 and third prize of £25, at the V.S.C.C. Race Meetings which take place at Silverstone on April 23rd (see page 289), Oulton Park on June 25th, Silverstone on July 30th and Castle Combe on September 17th. All races at these meetings will count, under rules devised by the V.S.C.C. Committee, on a basis of 18 points for a first place, 13 for a second place, eight for a third. These going to the drivers of the cars concerned. The last race run at Brooklands Track was held on August Bank Holiday 1939, so most of the competing cars will be of a type which could have run at the Track and in some cases they will, in fact, have competed there. Moreover, the atmosphere in the Paddock and on the course at these V.S.C.C. meetings is very redolent of amateurs racing at Brooklands before the war….
The Motor Sport Brooklands Memorial Trophy was formerly contested at B.A.R.C. Members’ Meetings at Goodwood but under the 3-litres ban such races are no longer applicable. It was awarded first in 1950, as a trophy to commemorate the Track. Hawthorn, Lumsden, Innes Ireland and Brooklands-driver Abecassis were amongst the drivers who have taken it home.
An Air Display will be held at Panshanger Aerodrome on Easter Monday.
