According to Model Maker, Sqd. Ldr. J. Crampton, one-time enthusiastic owner of a 2.9-litre Maserati, spent his last summer holiday attempting the Solent crossing with his Taplin Twin-powered, R.E.P. radio control, Keil Kraft Sea Commander model boat.

Last December, “D. S. J.” referred to the £77 B.R.S.C.C. round-trip to the Daytona 500-Mile Saloon Car Race as taking the prize for “the most expensive race visit.” This has been surpassed by the B.R.S.C.C. “Indianapolis Tour,” which costs £196 10s., and a contemporary’s trip to the same race, at £265. The former includes a visit to the New York World Fair, Niagara Falls, and the Ford factory at Detroit, and is “led by Stirling Moss himself,” however. So Indianapolis looks like being as much an “English Colony” as Le Mans.
