The effect of salt
Sir,
Have any of your readers ever seen headlamps fall off a modern car? I have. It was whilst cleaning a friend’s 1961 Sunbeam Rapier.
Neither headlamp was in any way attached to the front wing.
Originally the rear headlamp support had been riveted on with aluminium rivets, which, of course, had corroded away under the action of salt put on the roads during this spell of cold weather.
I predict that there will soon be a large number of Rootes Group cars being driven about minus their headlamps.
What a prize example of modern engineering methods this is!
