Dunlops speaking
Sir,
Before the correspondence on tyre life is closed I would like to do exactly what your contributor Mr. Strangeway says—let my tyres speak for themselves.
“Early in 1960 we (a set of gleaming new Dunlop Tubeless H.D. tyres) set out in life attached to an Austin A40 Farina. Before you could say ‘tyre-paint’ we had been shipped off to North Africa, and have spent the last 25,000 miles being thrashed unmercifully on and off of Libyan roads. We have been left to stand in the blazing sun for hours on end and then driven hard over stony tracks, and as for the pot-holes in some of the roads…!! Alas one of us succumbed to a bent nail on one occasion and first aid was needed—our only casualty in all those miles. It seems that our useful life is now at an end, and the word is out that we are to be replaced by a set of new C41s, and will probably spend many more miles on these roads attached to various forms of donkey cart.
“We have no feeling of shame at being replaced, and believe that our record of service brings every credit to the family name.”
