Mind my wattle!

The B.A.R.C. announces that it has relinquished its rule that applied at certain of its meetings that a driver who spun and put two or more wheels on the grass was automatically disqualified. Anyone who spins for no apparent reason is to be called before the Stewards—which is no different from the same action which was taken at Brooklands against those who drove too high up the banking, pulled in too soon after passing or crossed certain forbidden lines.

We are, however, not wholly in favour of a new B.A.R.C. rule which disqualifies any driver whose car collides with the movable barriers of the chicane, which, says the Club, must be regarded as being a solid wall. Drivers glance off solid objects at Monaco and elsewhere and, if their cars do not sustain dangerous damage, are permitted to continue the race—we quote Fangio at Monaco, Collins in the Targa Florio, Moss in the Mille Miglia, etc. One wonders whether this new B.A.R.C. rule was introduced with economy as much as safety in mind?—W.B.
