A Hillman Grand Slam

Having commented in the February Motor Sport on the excellent handling qualities of the modern Hillman Minx, we were interested to learn that the Manufacturers’ Team Prize in the recent Canadian International Winter Rally was won by a team of these Rootes Group cars. There were 89 retirements out of 149 starters in a rally covering 1,358 mountainous miles, many of them rendered almost impassable through blizzards and snowdrifts. In general classification Hillmans finished fifth, seventh and ninth. We believe the winner was a Volvo, that a Karmann Ghia VW was second, a Volvo third.
