Cyklaid, M.G. and Brough

Sir,

I was very interested in the steam car, “Vintage Tailpiece” (page 35). But I am sure it should be Sheppee, and not Sheppey.

Enclosed is a snap ([See above.—Ed.] of a machine I have just purchased; it is a Cyklaid and was made by Sheppee Motor Co.. Ltd., York. When I first had it, I wrote to them and they sent me a leaflet c.1923.

A few details are: Bore/Stroke 55 by 55.5 mm., 131 c.c. two-stroke, Villiers flywheel magneto. I have not yet got this machine running, but hope to in the spring.

I am Yours, etc.,

James G. Boulton – Wombourne

Sir,

With reference to J. H. Cock’s article on the 18/80 M.G., in which I was very interested, I agree with him that the 18/80 M.G. is hardly heard of now.

My father had two of these cars: a 1929 18/80 M.G. four-seater tourer (Reg. No. UN 2353), and a 1933 18/80 M.G. four-speed ‘box saloon, colour red and grey (Reg. No. AUL 240). He disposed of the latter in 1947.

I would be grateful to anyone who knows the whereabouts of these two cars, also Brough Superior motor-cycle, Reg. No. CA 9813.

I am, Yours, etc.,

G. Mather – Penrhyn Bay.
