Further Allard Successes

K. Hutchison wins the Colmore and Moss Trophies

K. Hutchison, back on pre-war form, won the Colmore Trophy with his V8 Allard. The famous Sunbac Trial was run off under snow and Laverton and Kineton hills proved to be real “stoppers.” In the timed test Hutchison tied with Newton’s 1 1/2-litre H.R.G., with a time of 17 sec. The Club Team Trophy was won by Allard, Hutchison and Price, the former with their Allards and Price with a V8 Ford. Lund’s blown PB M.G. took the Rhode Cup, Evans’s now-famous “Ophelia” the Shell Cup, and Allard the Bernard Norris Cup. The sole first-class award was won by Delingpole’s H.R.G., while Price and Mansell (blown 1,292-c.c. M.G.) took second-class awards.

A whole host of the 53 starters gained “thirds”:—Butler’s V8 Butler-Special, Newton’s H.R.G., Terry’s V8 Terryford, Bold’s Riley Nine, Burroughs’s V8 Ford, Pollock’s Frazer-Nash, Goodall’s 4/4 Morgan, Challands’s Riley Nine, Morrish’s blown P M.G., Scales’s M.G., Lawson’s H.R.G., and Birkett’s special Austin Seven. A good trial and return of one of the classics.

All The Winners
We have been getting a spate of trials. The Harrow C.C. revived its Moss Trophy Trial and K. Hutchison’s Allard proved the winner, over a snowy course. He was the only one of thirteen competitors to climb Seagrave’s Farm and Hellacre Wood and was fastest in the acceleration test. Price’s old V8 Ford gained the Cullen Cup and Murkett, Pentony and Frey, driving M.G.s, took the remaining awards. In the 750 Club’s trial, again run in snow, fifteen cars ran. Only two finished, Yeats’s Austin Seven taking the under-750-c.c. award and Parker’s Allard the over-1 1/2-litre prize. Then, in the Sheffield and Hallamshire M.C. Shann Cup Trial, consisting of driving tests, Flather’s B.M.W. made best performance, Harrison’s Riley “Sprite” being runner-up of the open cars and Jepson’s Chrysler scoring amongst the saloons, with May’s Fiat 500 as runner-up, by way of contrast.
